Other info:Vincent grew up in a religous and cultured atmosphere. He was highly emotional and lacked self-confidence. He lived unsucessfully early on and even started with a very dark palette. It was somber, tored and sharply lit. He had night long conversations and painted all day resulting in bad health. After an incident with a friend leaving and a pursuit with an open razor in Gogh's hand a portion of his own earlobe was cut off and he was therefore put in the Saint Remy asylum for treatment. In May of 1890 he seemed much better but he lived under the watchful eye of Dr.Gachet. Two months later he shot himself "for the good of all" and he only sold one painting during his short career (The Red Vineyard).
